BAE Challenge Day

Each year BAE Systems in Farnborough present local schools with a challenge/problem to solve. Secondary Schools send teams of six players to compete in this design challenge day.

Programme:
Welcome by BAE SYSTEMS
 - Video ‘Don’t stop me now’
 - Introduction to the task
 - Pupils consider task in teams
Teams members are delegated to attend one of 2 presentations:
 - Safe working practice and resources available
 - Considerations required to tackle the task
Team members report back to group

Working break

Groups are left to work on the task (without teacher support)
Consultant engineers circulate and counsel groups

LUNCH

‘The sales pitch’ – presentations to clients on the design feasibility
Test runs – 2 attempts per group
Tea  ~ Judges consider their findings
Challenge winners announced.

- Confidence and self-esteem
- Leadership skills
