
First Partnerhip and Cove School recently ran a specialist technology day for all 200 YR8 pupils of the school.
Employees from Fluor Ltd, The Environment Agency, IBM and Rushmoor Borough Council attended the day to present, guide and support pupils within technology challenges. Each pupil took part in three activities during the day as follows:-
ACTIVITY ONE: Fluor Ltd "Design a floating tower" challenge
The Fluor team set pupils a challenge to design a tower that would float in 150mm of water, be as tall as possible and support various weighted items. The pictures below show the Fluor team with winning designs and pupils considering the challenge presented to them.

ACTIVITY TWO: Design and test a water rocket
Pupils were tasked with designing and testing a water rocket. The rocket had to fly as far as possible from the launch pad. Pupils had to consider what materials they would purchase to enable the rocket to fly as far.

ACTIVITY THREE: The Quad Design challenge
Pupils had the opportunity to design what they would like to see implemented within a vacant area of the school. The quad is an outside area which links buildings to the school. Pupils were helped by The Environmental Agency who provided advice and guidance on design aspects.
