Professional Development Placement (Teacher Placements)

Objectives:  Interest in visiting a local farm to enhance her knowledge and experience and to forge local links.

A local farmer, Robert Janaway, whose family have farmed in the area for many years, kindly agreed to host the day.  Their farm at Upton Grey produces all the meat sold at their farm shop, Newlyns in North Warnborough, and was an ideal resource to view the whole farming process.

The day commenced with a bumpy landrover tour of the farm and an explanation of the breeding and feeding programmes.

Sarah then visited the Newlyns Farm Shop.  Emma, the Shop Manager explained the process of setting up the business. She explained that the shop, which has been open for 2 years, employs 3 full time butchers as well as staff who produce ready meals, pies and pasties to sell.  They also produce desserts and cakes and sell potatoes and vegetables grown on the farm.

Robert and Emma were delighted to host the day and were eager to promote their business to schools in the future.
