Mock Interviews

Mock or practice interviews are established in order to give students a realistic understanding of how an interview process works. Businesses often use Mock Interviews as a way of training and developing junior managers.

What are mock interviews?

Mock interviews are a realistic simulation of the most daunting stage in the recruitment process. For young people about to embark on the non-compulsory part of their education or career, the interview can be a worrying prospect. The students begin by applying for a mock interview by CV or application form. They then visit an employer for the interview. At the end of the session the employer gives the student feedback.

Why?

Whether school leavers intend to go onto further education, vocational training or straight into work, they are unlikely to have experienced a professional interview. The mock interview initiative was created so that young people could experience the situation of a “real live” interview in a supportive environment.

The benefits to business

Interviews are as difficult for a new interviewer as they are for an inexperienced candidate. A mock interview offers an opportunity for both to “practise”. Companies in the past have used this initiative to train a new interviewer by having a more experienced person observe and give feedback on their, interview techniques, verbal skills and written feedback. There is an opportunity to find out whether the interviewer is able to concisely record and evaluate the interview, as well as a chance to identify potential future employees.
